SEaP Conference

From Idea to Impact – Leading Sustainable Change

If there’s one thing we can all agree on, it’s that Ghana and Africa need practical, sustainable solutions to address its unique development challenges. This is exactly what the Social Entrepreneurship and Philanthropy (SEaP) initiative is all about.

SEaP is integral to the MSc Development Management program at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Institute of Distance Learning. First introduced in 2016, the course challenges students to go beyond classroom theories and engage directly with communities to design and implement low-cost, high-impact solutions that align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Looking Back: SEaP 2024 and the Power of Collaboration

Last year, the 7th SEaP Conference was held under the theme “Inspiring Active Citizenship: The Role of the Development Manager.” It showcased some truly inspiring projects that demonstrated the power of collaboration, community-driven solutions and the impact small determined groups can make.

Projects ranged from vocational skills training for unemployed youth to supporting community schools with libraries and learning materials, each requiring partnerships with local government, community leaders, and philanthropists to ensure sustainability. These projects didn’t just make a difference in the short term; they created what we hope will be lasting change.

This Year’s SEaP Conference: A New Theme, Bigger Impact

Fast forward to 2025, and we are gearing up for the 8th SEaP Conference, themed “From Idea to Impact: Leading Sustainable Change.” This year promises to be even bigger, with 11 student groups presenting their community projects to a panel of Lecturers and Development practitioners.

The projects span various regions across Ghana, from Tamale to Ada, with one project reaching as far as Liberia, on topics ranging from health, and education to child protection projects, a true testament to the regional and international impact of SEaP initiatives. Each group will discuss not only what they achieved but also the long-term sustainability of their projects and the challenges they experienced along their journey.

The 8th SEaP Conference is open to the public, and everyone is encouraged to attend, whether in person or online. If you’re passionate about Development, sustainability, and social entrepreneurship, this is an event you don’t want to miss!
